Rinse Aid and Drying Settings Improve Dryness; Quick/Eco Trade Dryness for Speed
Facets
These facets are broadly related to the theme.
Observed cleaning outcomeClassified by AI
What the participant notices about cleanliness/performance (residue, spots, remaining soil, cloudy glass, detergent issues) during unloading.
Follow-up reason / improvement / disappointment categoryClassified by AI
Captures the participant's brief reason for why the load was better/about as expected/worse (or what would have improved it) — used to group follow-up responses into actionable categories (e.g., cleaning, drying, time, damage).
Answers for the multiple choice question: "Now thinking about DRYING (water droplets, plastics, glasses, cutlery), how do you feel about how dry the items came out in this load?"
Drying compared to expected/usualClassified by AI
Interviewer follow-up question: whether the drying outcome was better, the same, or worse than the participant’s usual/expected results for drying (asked while participant shows items).
Item types shown for drying evaluationClassified by AI
Which categories of items the participant showed on camera for the drying assessment (e.g., plastics, glasses, cutlery) — used to contextualize the drying judgment.
Remediation severity / extentClassified by AI
How extensive the required post-wash fixes are, indicating impact on effort and workflow.
Item types needing remediationClassified by AI
Specific categories of items the participant shows or names as needing rework after the wash (useful for linking failure patterns to item classes).
Perceived cause of the issueClassified by AI
What the participant thinks caused the cleaning/drying problem (their attribution: program, loading, detergent, item type, water, machine, etc.).
Post-wash remediation actions requiredClassified by AI
Which concrete fixes the participant says they need to do after this run (e.g., re-wash, hand-scrub, hand-dry, re-arrange, discard).
Participant explanation (free text)Classified by AI
Participant’s brief reason for choosing that factor — capture their explanation verbatim or summarized (open text) for this load.
Primary perceived factor affecting wash outcomeClassified by AI
Which single factor the participant believes had the biggest impact on how this specific load turned out (choose one).
Quotes
“Sure, so we are using this finished Jet Dry and Rinse Aid. It works really well on making sure that the dishes get dry and there aren't any water spots left over. At some point I had attempted to just use vinegar, you know, to try to get some chemicals out of our home, but with this particular dishwasher brand it was not getting the dishes dry and leaving water marks. So we called a plumber and they said it's not going to work and that we actually have to use a a legit rinse aid.”
“I honestly think it's a combination. I think that I just did the normal settings. I do think that if I done the dry boost, the extra, it might have had a little bit more time in there to dry, so it might not have had as much, but I think also using the additives of that rinse aid or the dry aspect of it that that really helps, dry a lot of it.”
“Alright. So here is the finished load. Everything is still relatively wet. Things don't dry super well. I will say that things don't really dry in the express load. You have to leave them for quite a long period of time, but for the purposes of this, I did open it just now. So the first thing I noticed is that everything is relatively wet still, but everything looks pretty clean. Even this whisk that did have a little bit of food left on it. So everything looks relatively good with the exception again of things being a bit wet.”
“I think it's primarily due to the machine and the settings. Because I used Express, it didn't have the chance to thoroughly dry. And I think that was the biggest impact. I don't think that necessarily the detergent or the additives had much to do with this. I think the waffle insert would have kind of ended up this way regardless.”
“I don't think it was about the placement. I wanna say it was probably just the fact that I did the speed clean, so it was half the time of the regular cycle. Also, the dishwasher itself wasn't fully packed with items. And so I think there was just more space for the water to kinda go around as it did. But like I said, I mean, it's just a bit of water. Most of it, you could just sorta kinda dump into the sink and just put here on the drying rack. So that's what I plan on doing. But, yeah, I mean, it's great when they come out and they are bone dry, but also seeing that water there just kind of it solidifies, at least for me, that the dishwasher did what it needed to do. My main thing for the dishwasher is for it to wash the dishes for me. The drying is just an extra added bonus. It's not something that I expect for them to be dry like the Sahara. Because if they were, I guess I would wonder if the dishwasher were actually doing its job in cleaning the dishes. So because I can see the water there and I can see that the steam that came out, I know that the dishwasher did its thing, and that's really my main concern.”
“I'm using the finished, dry rinse aid, and I usually use this, aid used to keep the glasses from having spots on them. And I use this because I can get it at bulk at, like, Sam's Club, and I find that it usually works best. And most dishwashers, I think, is partnered with this as well.”
