Cost Efficiency Leads to Mid-Tier and Private-Label Choices

While high-quality ingredients are desirable, cost considerations push many owners to mid-range brands or supermarket labels that offer acceptable nutrition at lower prices. This balance between quality and affordability presents an opportunity for value-tier brands to emphasize competitive pricing alongside nutritional standards.

“Yes, of course. I put this product in my shopping cart. You can see it here on the right-hand side. That was just now. I had to reload the page, so I'm not sure if the answer was saved in full. But yes, here it's definitely the price-performance ratio with the 2 euros per kilo, well, under 2 euros per kilo, and the tolerability of it. In the end it came down to an Amazon own brand. But hey, if I order it online, I don't really care what the end result is. But yes, 5 kilos, a 5 kilo sack for, what's that then? 8 euros. That's pretty good. You can do a lot of work with that.”

“So, I didn't click on "admittance countries" just now, so I'm going to go to the shopping cart. Here you can see the Benefol 12 Kilo Park Wohlfühlgewicht (Weight for the Whole Body). I chose this one because my dog loves Benefol because he has to watch his weight a bit. And I chose the single 12-kilogram offer instead of 6 x 1.4 or whatever it was because it's simply better value for money. I have more, and it's cheaper too. And I don't have to carry the heavy 12-kilogram bag myself because it's practically delivered to my door.”

“Main factors would be, gentle on the gut. She Bella can be a little bit sicky, and good value for money and something that's gonna last, like, the full month. I like to kinda bulk buy.”

“I want something that a, they're gonna enjoy, b, that is not cheap, and I want something that is fairly decent for them. So I don't wanna feed them the top dog food there is because that's too expensive. So I want something that, is nutritious for them and that they can enjoy. So they're the main factors and reason reasonably priced.”

“So, most likely, the more well-known the brand, the more expensive it is, but that doesn't always directly correlate with the fact that just because something is more expensive means it's better. So, you can often get the same quality for less money if you just look a little more specifically.”

“Well, it varies. We currently buy the EDK own brand, which I really like, the dry food. You can buy quite large bags. But we also buy branded products when they're on sale and just see how he likes them and so he has a bit of variety.”

“So I usually buy Caesar or supermarket own brands as I believe they have the best nutritional value for the dog, and they also have a reasonable price.”

“So I buy my dog food on Amazon because it's actually cheaper than buying it in store. And the criteria for dog food, it has to be grain free because one of my dogs has an intolerance to that, and it can upset her stomach. So I'm on a schedule for every two weeks, I believe, for a dog food delivery.”

“I shop for dog food both online and in store and so I would sometimes buy it at pets at home and again you can find this in store or online or other times I buy it on Amazon and it just really depends or has it at the best price. If anyone had promotions on, it'd be more likely to shop there.”

“I'm not really sure yet because I've been I've been wanting to do a little bit of deep research on the Internet to see what brands I could switch to, but so far, I have not had time to do it. It's something that I plan to do in the future. It's not for sure that I would change when I would leave bakers. I just want to see what are the options and also that they are recent reasonably priced. You know? Because, like, if there's something that is higher quality but is super pricey, then I will not be that sure.”

“I usually buy my dog food online. Why? I can choose the delivery time. Plus, I have the huge advantage of not having to lug it home. And the third aspect is that it's more cost-effective than picking it up locally. We also have a Yosera food option that isn't always available in all stores. I just had to think about whether that's still the case, but it used to be that way, and it's still the case today. And those are the reasons for buying online. I buy from [company name] in particular.”

“So, off the top of my head, a pedicure, then, oh, what's the other one? A private label from what was the private label called? Definitely some no-name brand, then from Revo or Lidl or even from Kaufland sometimes. Yeah, I don't even know what the others are called. Yeah, something like that.”

“My favorite brand to buy is usually Wag, because it's reasonably priced. He quite likes the taste of it, and it has the lowest protein content that I could find on my supermarket shelves. When they don't have that in stock, I tend to go for something like bakers because they do the the meaty chunks version, which is what he prefers. He's not too keen on, like, small kibble. And then for his wet food, he gets on quite well with the supermarket own brand one. He sometimes has a bit of a dodgy belly, particularly if I change the wet food. So I try to stick to the same one. But when it's not possible, again, I look for what's affordable and what's got the lowest protein content, which in the past, I've used the churro and chappie, but both of them have not really gone well with his stomach. He's had a bit of an upset tummy the next day.”

“On the one hand, I have to mention the reviews, which I always pay attention to. And on the other hand, there are the vouchers and savings and the prices.”

“I've tried a few over the years. I've tried bakers and I've tried Harrington's as well but what I tend to stick with now is butchers and butchers have different types so they've got the dog food and the gravy, they've got the dog food and jelly and they've also got tripe. So I do mix between them every now and again. I have also had them on the raw diet but that turned out to be too expensive. So they have butchers for their evening meal and they have biscuits called nood, n double o d for their breakfast. And I like nood because it seems like a decent biscuit for them, kibble, I mean, that is, well made and it it doesn't include too many bad properties.”

“Well, at the moment, we mostly buy our dog food at Edeka, where we do our weekly shop. But I haven't really found the perfect solution yet, because we've bought some online before. That was relatively cheap, and it worked out well. But somehow it's always like this: hmm, what does the dog like? I don't want to buy a large portion online, because then he won't like it. Yes, and somehow I have to feel my way around it a bit more. But basically, for me, I'm quite price-sensitive and always think that it shouldn't be too expensive. Now, a dog who, to be honest, otherwise only eats junk in the wild, doesn't need to eat premium food, which is more expensive than our human food, so to speak. So, it can't be that expensive, but it has to taste good to him. So, and that's why I pay close attention to the price and then what he eats, in small portions to begin with. And if I notice he likes it, I'll buy larger quantities next time. Whether it's online or offline is a bit of a balance these days, or at least at the moment.”
